"End of Life...a New Beginning"

Capri Hotel and Conference Centre, Red Deer Alberta

The Alberta Chapter of the Canadian Land Reclamation Association (CLRA) will be holding its annual general meeting and conference at the Capri Hotel in Red Deer on February 29 to March 2^nd, 2012.

As reclamation practitioners, we take on the challenges of restoring developed lands to their pre-developed state. Upon end of an asset life, the site restoration phase brings a renewal process that guides and shapes the transition of the sites physical characteristics. Through this process operators can demonstrate good land stewardship, principles of sustainability and good stakeholder relations. The specifics of how the process is designed and carried out are influenced by site features, the regulations, and technical abilities and innovativeness of reclamation practitioners.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

To satisfy the theme of this year’s conference, this call for papers has been issued to support a variety of topics related to End of Life...a New Beginning in reclamation which may include:

What kind of development took place and what will be the challenges to prepare for the restoration/reclamation?
How does the past affect what the future will look like?
What standards apply to guide the reclamation outcomes and ecological restoration?
Can these standards be interpreted in different ways?
What stakeholders are involved or should be involved? Does/should the reclamation process engage more stakeholders than just the landowner?
Is the reclamation practice static or dynamic and evolving?
Is there applied research underway that will facilitate or change aspects of reclamation?
Are there any emerging trends or challenges that practitioners have to or will soon have to overcome?

Abstracts are to be submitted to Fannie Desrosiers no later than Wednesday December 21^th, 2011 at fannie.desrosiers@genivar.com.

Submissions will not be accepted unless they include:

An abstract of approximately 300 words
Presenters Biography (minimum 100 words, maximum 300 words) and Contact Information
Any Co-Authors, or Co-Presenters and their Biographies
Approximate timing of presentation
Any audio-visual requirements (other than a laptop/projector for a powerpoint presentation)

Successful submissions will be contacted by January 21, 2012.
