CALL FOR PAPERS

The theme for the 2010 conference is "Perceptions and Misconceptions in Reclamation".  Sometimes working within an industry, we forget how others view us.  We are a relatively young industry here in Alberta but there is more to us than just the last ten years. Our theme is based on looking at common perceptions that we have of our industry and the validity of these perceptions. This theme can apply to a variety of topics within reclamation, for example:
    • Public perceptions on the reclamation industry – does the public believe we are doing a good job?  Are we "protecting the public" and is it our responsibility? Are we communicating what we do effectively?  How do we deal with misconceptions?
    • Economic effects to our industry – are we through the roughest patch or do we perceive more issues to come?  How should we be prepared for potential outcomes?
    • The business case for reclamation – what is the perceived value of the work that we do, what are our drivers?
    • How do we perceive ourselves as an industry?  Are we doing a good job?  Does each of us have the tools to conduct work as the needs of the future change (eg: the Alberta Landuse Framework)?  What new tools and information should we look too, and are we sharing learning’s that were discovered in the past?
    • Are our technical measurement standards meeting the end public and regulatory land use objectives?  Can we do better?  What is the cost of doing better?
    • How does regulations, the new land use framework, media focus and global warming initiatives affect what will happen within our industry?

Abstracts are to be submitted to Monica Brightwell no later than December 18th, 2009 at Monica.Brightwell@mwhglobal.com. Abstract submissions must include:

    • An abstract of approximately 300 words
    • Presenters Biography (minimum 100 words, maximum 300 words) and Contact Information
    • Any Co-Authors, or Co-Presenters and their Biographies
    • Approximate timing of presentation
    • Any audio-visual requirements (other than a laptop/projector for a powerpoint presentation)

Successful submissions will be contacted by January 18th, 2010.
